2026:JHHC:15697 IN THE HIGH COURT OF JHARKHAND AT RANCHI B.A. No.4569 of 2026 ---- Pappu Kumar, aged about 30 years, Son of Prasadi Nonia, Resident of Mathadih, Bhatmurna, P.O.+P.S.- Katras, District – Dhanbad. …. Petitioner(s) Versus The State of Jharkhand …. …. Opposite Party ---- CORAM: HON’BLE MR. JUSTICE RONGON MUKHOPADHYAY ---- For the Petitioner(s) : Mr. A.K. Kashyap, Sr. Adv. For the State : Mr. Rajesh Kumar, A.P.P. ---- 02/Dated: 29th May, 2026 1. Heard Mr. A.K. Kashyap, learned senior counsel for the petitioner and learned APP. 2. The petitioner is an accused in connection with Katras P.S. Case No.34 of 2026. 3. The daughter of the informant was alleged to have been set ablaze by her in-laws on non-fulfilment of demand of dowry and she ultimately died. 4. Submission has been advanced by the learned senior counsel for the petitioner that there is delay of 34 days in lodging the FIR. It has further been submitted that the deceased had suffered burn injury at the time of cooking and though it has been mentioned about the dying declaration but it is not known as to whether the deceased was in a fit state of mind to give her statement. 5. Learned senior counsel further adds that the petitioner is in custody since 20.01.2026. 6. Learned APP has opposed the prayer for bail of the petitioner. 7. It appears that there was dying declaration in which the deceased had categorically stated that it was the petitioner who had poured kerosene upon her and set her ablaze. 8. Regard being had to the above, I am not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner, at this stage. Accordingly, the prayer for bail of the petitioner is hereby rejected. (Rongon Mukhopadhyay, J.)
