For Petitioner(s): Mr. D.Soundar Raj For Respondent(s): Ms.S.Pavithra Standing Counsel https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 12331 of 2026 __________ Page2 of 4 Order The Writ Petition has been filed seeking to issue a writ of Mandamus directing the respondent herein to settle 6 percent interest for the belated settlement of retirement benefits to the petitioner herein which is payable to the petitioner’s husband Late Arul Selvam by considering the representations of the petitioner dated 7.11.2025 and 27.02.2026. 2. The case of the petitioner is that her late husband, Arul Selvam was appointed as a Driver, in the respondent-Transport Corporation on 21.10.1997 and his retirement was due on 31.03.2028. However, he died due to illness on 04.04.2023. The terminal benefits payable to him have been settled to the petitioner on 12.02.2025, but no interest has been paid for the delayed period. Therefore, the petitioner made representations on 07.11.2025 and 27.02.2026, seeking payment of interest for the delayed period. Since the same was not considered, the present writ petition has been filed. 3. The learned Standing Counsel for the respondent would fairly submit that they are willing to pay the interest at the rate of 6% per annum for the belated payment of the eligible and admissible amount. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 12331 of 2026 __________ Page3 of 4 4. Heard the learned counsel for both sides and perused the materials available on record. 5. In view of the above submission of the learned Standing Counsel, this Court deems it appropriate to direct the respondent to pay interest at the rate of 6% per annum for the belated payment of admissible terminal benefits from the date of retirement till the date of actual disbursal of the terminal benefits of the petitioner within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. 6.
