Petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following relief: “A. To issue a writ, order or direction in the nature mandamus directing the respondent no.1 to 3 to provide protection to the life and personal liberty of petitioners from respondent no.4, his relatives and associates.” 3. It is submitted that both the petitioners belong to the same faith, and that the petitioners developed a liking for each other, which has ended in marriage, and now both the petitioners are living together. Since the father of petitioner no.1 (respondent no.4) is against this marriage, he is giving out threats to kill both the petitioners. Petitioners submit that they are facing stiff resistance, and they seriously apprehend threat to their life and limb from the respondent no.4, and hence they are before this Court praying for protection. It is further submitted that the petitioners are residing together as husband and wife. 4. Learned State Counsel submits that UKHC010145302026 2026:UHC:7219 petitioners have neither moved any application before the Station House Officer, Police Station Rudrapur, District Udham Singh Nagar nor approached the Senior Superintendent of Police, District Udham Singh Nagar seeking appropriate protection and have directly approached this Court. 5. The documents on record reveal that both the petitioners are majors, and it is also submitted by the counsel for the petitioners that the parties have performed marriage according to Hindu Rites and Rituals on 27.07.2026 in a temple. 6. In that view of the matter, and in view of the ruling of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the case of Lata Singh Vs State of U.P. and another, (2006) 5 SCC 475, the petitioners have made out a case for grant of protection. 7. The Station House Officer, Police Station Rudrapur, District Udham Singh Nagar is directed to assess the threat, if any, to the life and limb of the petitioners, and provide necessary protection, if it is found that there is a threat to the life and limb of the petitioners. The S.H.O. is further directed to summon the private respondent, and such other persons, who are inimically placed towards the marriage of the petitioners, and counsel them, in accordance with law. 8. The writ petition stands ordered accordingly.
