The case of the petitioner is that the petitioner is an adopted son of R.M.Chidambaram and Lalitha Chidambaram, as recorded by the Principal City Civil Court, Chennai in O.P.No.564 of 1981 vide order dated 08.12.1981 under Section 9(4) of the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956. The father of the petitioner died intestate on 04.04.1993 leaving behind his wife, Lalitha Chidambaram and his only son Krithikanand, the petitioner herein. On 07.06.2025, his mother Lalitha Chidambaram died intestate leaving behind the petitioner as her sole legal heir. Thereafter, the petitioner applied for Legal Heirship Certificate for his mother on 12.07.2025 before the second respondent https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis W.P.No.14910 of 2026 __________ Page3 of 6 on 12.07.2025 and also sent a reminder to the second respondent on 04.09.2025, but, till date, no Legal Heirship Certificate has been issued to the petitioner. The petitioner has also filed an appeal before the 1st respondent on 11.11.2025, but no action has been taken so far. Hence, the petitioner is before this Court. 3. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that it would suffice, if the second respondent is directed to dispose of the applications of the petitioner dated 12.07.2026 and 04.09.2025 for issuance of Legal Heirship Certificate in terms of G.O.(Ms).No.110, Revenue and Disaster Management Department dated 13.03.2024, on merits and in accordance with law, within a specified period 4. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Government Advocate appearing for the respondents. 5. Considering the fact that the petitioner is the legally adopted son of R.M.Chidambaram and Lalitha Chidambaram, as recorded by the learned Principal Judge, City Civil Court, Chennai in O.P.No.564 of 1981 dated 08.12.1981, this Court directs the second respondent to issue Legal Heirship https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis W.P.No.14910 of 2026 __________ Page4 of 6 Certificate to the petitioner on the demise of her adoptive mother late Lalitha Chidambaram, within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, in terms of G.O.(Ms).No.110, Revenue and Disaster Management Department dated 13.03.2024. 6. With the above direction, this Writ Petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs. 7.
