Husband of the petitioner was an employee of Sajirhat Branch of Bank of India, who died-in- harness on 1st January, 2024. Petitioner being widow applied for appointment on compassionate ground in prescribed proforma on 21st September, 2024 and it is submitted that till date no steps have been taken to take decision on said application of the petitioner seeking appointment on compassionate ground. Petitioner prays for direction upon the concerned authorities of bank to appoint her on compassionate ground. 2. Mr. Debasish Saha, learned advocate represents bank authority and submits that as per relevant scheme relating to appointment on compassionate ground application of the 2 petitioner dated 21st September, 2024 may be considered but there is one impediment as one writ petition being WPA 26418 of 2024 is pending at the instance of the father of deceased employee. It is also submitted in reference to a letter dated 5th January, 2026 issued on behalf of Bank of India addressed to Officer-in-Charge, Ekbalpore Police Station, Kolkata that certain allegations are leveled against the petitioner in the writ petition filed by petitioner’s father-in-law and the said writ petition is still pending. 3. Nothing is shown during course of hearing that petitioner is found to be responsible for any offence as alleged in the aforesaid writ petition which was filed by her father-in-law. However, it is submitted that writ petition is still pending. 4. In view of aforesaid situation concerned authority of Bank of India is directed to decide application of the petitioner dated 21st September, 2024 seeking appointment on compassionate ground by 8 (eight) weeks from the date of communication of this order. If it is decided that petitioner is found eligible to be appointed on compassionate ground under relevant scheme petitioner shall be appointed 3 subject to result of the pending writ petition being WPA 26418 of 2024. 5. With the aforesaid directions writ petition stands disposed of. 6. Copy of the letter dated 5th January, 2026 issued on behalf of the bank authority addressed to the Officer-in-Charge, Ekbalpore Police Station, Kolkata is taken on record. 7. Urgent photostat certified copy of the order, if applied for, be given to the parties, upon usual undertakings. (Saugata Bhattacharyya, J.)
