1. The indolent and lackadaisical approach of respondents, in not taking a final decision on the legal notice dated 20.06.2025 (Annexure P-11), propelled the present petitioner, who is being represented through her wife since deceased, to file the instant petition under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India, for issuance of a mandamus upon the respondents to promote the petitioner to the post of SDO from the date of his eligibility and to grant/release the arrears of the salary to him for the period from the date of his deemed promotion to the said post, till his death, as well as arrears of pension and revised retiral benefits.

3. Mr. Sahil R. Bakshi, AAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of all the respondents-State and waives service.
4. He submits that the prayer as made in the instant petition, is innocuous, and he does not have any objection in case a mandamus is passed upon competent authority amongst the respondents, i.e. the Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Department (respondent no.1), to decide the legal notice (supra), in a time bound manner.
5. In view of the above, this Court, without observing anything on the merits of the instant case, directs respondent no.1, to take a final decision on the legal notice (supra), by passing a speaking order, within a period of 06 weeks from the date receipt of a certified copy of this order.
