In two contempt petitions viz., Cont.P.Nos.47 and 141 of 2025, filed against the Commissioner of Gudalur Municipality and the Commissioner of Nelliyalam Municipality, respectively, a learned single Judge of this Court by order dated 15.07.2025 had directed the disbursing authority not to disburse the salaries due to the Commissioner of Gudalur Municipality and the Commissioner of Nelliyalam Municipality, till the orders passed in WP Nos7660 & 7661 of 2023 dated 28.06.2023, are complied with. The Contempt Appeals in Cont.A.Nos.31 & 32 of 2025 have been filed against the aforesaid order, by the Commissioner of Gudalur Municipality and Nelliyalam Municipality. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis

By a subsequent order dated 30.07.2025 in Cont.P.Nos.47 and 141 of 2025,, the learned single Judge had directed the Commissioners to deposit a sum of Rs.1,00,00,000/- [Rupees One Crore Only] each to the credit of the Contempt Petition Nos.47 and 141 of 2025, respectively. It is against this order, LPA.Nos.31 & 32 of 2025, have been filed. 3. Pending the above appeals, on 20.07.2026, we had directed the Commissioners of both Municipalities to deposit a sum of Rs.1,00,00,000/- [Rupees One Crore Only] each to the credit of two contempt petitions in favour of the Registrar General, High Court. 4. On 28.07.2026, both the Commissioners have filed a ‘Memo of Compliance’ before the Registry stating that they had deposited a sum of Rs.1,00,00,000/- [Rupees One Crore Only] each to the credit of respective Contempt Petitions viz., Cont.P.Nos.47 and 141 of 2025. We had recorded the compliance in our order dated 31.07.2026. 5. 2025. Hence, they are closed. 6.
In view of the deposit made, the order attaching the salaries of the appellants also may not be warranted and hence, Contempt Appeals viz., Cont.A.Nos.31 and 32 of 2025, are allowed. The above appeals have been filed against the interim orders passed in the Contempt Petitions pending before the learned single Judge. It is needless to say that it is open to the parties to pursue their respective cases before the learned single Judge. No Costs. Consequently, the connected Civil Miscellaneous Petitions are closed.
