Respondent For Petitioner : Mr.S.Vinoth Kumar Government Advocate (crl.side) ORDER This Suo Motu Case is dealt with in an extraordinary manner by the Dedicated Bench, pursuant to Suo Motu.W.P.(Crl.) No.618 of 2025. 2. The allegations in this case are that on 14.06.2017, the accused, led by DMK Party Area Secretary Kannan, protested at R.K. Shanmugam Salai - Anna Main Road junction against the removal of the Opposition Leader from the Legislative Assembly, without due permission, causing obstruction to Page No.1 of 3 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis Suo Motu TR.No. 2052 of 2025 traffic and the public. A case was registered in Cr.No. 1986 of 2017 on 14.06.2017. The final report was filed on 16.06.2017 and the accused have been facing trial since then. Thus, it can be seen that the allegations concern exercising the democratic right to protest. 3. Given the context and nature of the allegations, continuing the trial impinges on the right to a speedy trial of the accused. No useful purpose will be served by continuing the case. 4. Accordingly, the case in C.C.No.2744 of 2019 of XXIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Saidapet Taluk, Chennai shall stand quashed and this Suo Motu Transfer Case stand disposed of. 10.09.2025 nsl Note to the Trial Court: This order is digitally signed and communicated electronically alone.
