The petitioner has applied for renewal of passport. He was issued a show-cause notice on 06.02.2024 apprising him of the fact that there is adverse police verification report against him in view of Case Crime No.150 of 2020 under Section 13 of the Public Gambling Act. 3. The case of the petitioner is that in the said case, although, the petitioner was convicted but only fine was imposed, which has been duly paid. 4. Learned counsel for the petitioner concedes that the petitioner has not responded to the show-cause notice so far and states that the petitioner will bring the fact regarding order passed in the criminal case to the notice of respondent no.2 and prays that direction be issued to the said respondent to take final decision in the matter expeditiously. 5. Accordingly, the writ petition is disposed of with liberty to the petitioner to submit his explanation in pursuance of show-cause notice. In case, the proceedings have not yet been closed, respondent no.2 will take appropriate decision on the application expeditiously preferably within two weeks from the date of submission of the explanation. It is further provided that, in case, the proceedings for renewal have already been closed, it shall be open to the petitioner to file fresh application and in which event, the same shall be considered and decided by respondent no.2 expeditiously.
