THIS PETITION, COMING ON FOR PRELIMINARY HEARING IN 'B' GROUP, THIS DAY, ORDER WAS MADE THEREIN AS UNDER: CORAM: HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE B M SHYAM PRASAD ORAL ORDER The petitioner is a minor girl, who is represented by her father, and the petition is for direction to the respondent to rectify her name in the - 3 - HC-KAR NC: 2025:KHC:31888 WP No. 18415 of 2025 Aadhar Card. This Court on the previous hearing date, upon hearing both Sri Keshav M. Datar and Sri B.S. Venkatanarayana, the learned counsels for the parties, has framed the following question for consideration observing that even according to the respondents, if the change in the name as mentioned in the Aadhar Card is just a minor name change and not full name change, the petitioner’s father must only upload the request on the Aadhar Portal for just decision. "The question is whether correction from "Aaradhya Banneti" to "Aarya Bannetti" is a mere correction in the spelling [Minor Name Edit or Full Name Change]. If Sri Keshav M. Datar submits that the petitioner is not seeking a full name change but is only seeking for deletion of the letters 'adh' in the name as now mentioned in the Aadhar card, Sri B.S. Venkatanarayana refutes the same. This Court does - 4 - HC-KAR NC: 2025:KHC:31888 WP No. 18415 of 2025 not find that the request on behalf of the petitioner is for 'a full name change'. The petitioner is mentioned as 'Aradhya Bannetti' and she wants her name to be mentioned as 'Aarya Bannetti' without the alphabets 'adh' in the middle and in support of her claim it is placed on record that all her credentials, including the Birth Certificate, mentions her name as 'Aarya Bannetti'. Therefore, a writ of mandamus is issued to the respondent to ensure that the petitioner's name is shown as 'Aarya Bannetti', with liberty to the petitioner to upload the request on the portal. The petitioner will be at liberty to upload the request as aforesaid within a week from today and the respondent is called upon to do the needful within the next six weeks.
