Mr. Rizwan Ahmad Qureshi, learned advocate appears on behalf of petitioner and submits, his client purchased the property, in which he seeks electric connection. The supply company has raised bill for electricity charges and penalty on theft committed by his client's vendor. He relies on sub-section (2) of section 56 in Electricity Act, 2003 to submit, his client having had purchased the property in year 2023, the supply company's present claim against his client is in any event barred by time. Without prejudice he submits, his client will pay, on some relaxation allowed by the supply company. Mr. Pranjal Mehrotra, learned advocate appears on behalf of the electricity company and submits, the demand was raised in accordance with law and the rules. Petitioner is at liberty to approach the supply company for liquidation of the arrear demand by instalments and payment of connection and current charges for obtaining the connection. It is entirely upto the supply company to deal with the request. Be it noted that if the supply company allows petitioner some relaxation for liquidation of the arrears by instalments, petitioner thus becoming its consumer and would continue as such, should be security for realising the dues.
