Hon’ble Ashish Naithani, J. Mr. Bilal Ahmed, learned counsel for the petitioners. 2. Mr. J.P. Kandpal, learned Brief Holder for the State of Uttarakhand. 3. Petitioners have filed this writ petition for protection. According to them, they were in love for the last three years, and now, they have married. The date of marriage is 16.05.2025, as mentioned in paragraph no. 9 of the writ petition. 4. Petitioners appeared before this Court. Petitioner no. 2 apprised the Court that he is employed with a tent house at Roorkee and he has studied upto intermediate. Petitioner no. 1 also stated that she has studied upto intermediate, and further that her date of birth is 28.03.2006. The High School Certificate enclosed as Annexure-1 to the writ petition corroborates the said statement regarding the date of birth. 5. Learned State Counsel submits that since both the petitioners claim to have married as per Hindu Rites and Customs, therefore, he has no objection, if protection is granted to them. 2025:UHC:4189-DB 6. Since both the petitioners are major and they are living together with their own free will, therefore, in view of the law laid down by Hon’ble Apex Court in the case of Lata Singh Vs. State of U.P. and Another; 2006 (5) SCC 475, we are inclined to grant protection to the petitioners. 7. Accordingly, writ petition is disposed of with direction to the Station House Officer, P.S. Kotwali Roorkee, District Haridwar to provide protection to petitioners for a period of 6 weeks to ensure that no harm is caused to them by private respondents or any other person acting at their behest. Upon expiry of 6 weeks, the SHO concerned shall make fresh assessment of threat perception of petitioners and take such steps, as are felt necessary. 8.
