AG Punjab SANDEEP MOUDGIL, J (ORAL) The jurisdiction of this Court has been invoked under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for directing the official respondents nos.2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners from the hands of respondent no.4 to6. Learned State counsel submits that a speaking order dated 18.05.2025 has been passed on the representation submitted by the petitioners. A copy of the same has been supplied to the counsel for the petitioners. The relevant part of the
order read as under:-
“Whereas, Ramanpreet aged about 19 years daughter of Gurharpreet resident of Village Maqsudpur District Kapurthala, Punjab presently residing at Village Rara Police Station Tanda District Hoshiarpur, Jugjit Singh s/o Manjit Singh resident of Village Rara Police Station Tanda District Hoshiarpur has jointly filed a petition bearing number CRWP-5123-2025 before the Hon'ble High Court, Chandigarh, MEENU 2025.05.20 18:45 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document
CRWP-5123-2025 -2- seeking protection of their lives and liberty. In their petition, they stated that they are both majors, that the petitioner Ramanpreet has married to Jugjit Singh of her own free will and without any pressure, threat, or coercion against the wishes of their respective families They expressed apprehension of threats to their lives, particularly from Sunita (Mother) W/o Gurharpreet, Harpreet (Uncle) S/o Sankar das, Navjot Kaur (Aunt) W/o Harpreet resident of Village Maqsudpur District Kapurthala, family members During the course of the enquiry, Asi Sita Ram Police Post Basti Bohran police Station Tanda recorded the statements of the petitioners Jugjit Singh,s Father Manjit Singh And Sarpanch of village Rara Satinder Kaur. They stated that petitioners Ramanpreet And Jugjit Singh have not visited their home after marriage. On the mobile number of petitioner,s 98729-34398 they gave a statement on phone that they are safe and they have no danger from anyone The Petitioners send a joint statement on whatsapp that they don't need Protection they both are safe. In future if the petitioners need protection of their life and liberty should be provided. ” In the light of above, learned counsel for the petitioners prays for withdrawal of the present petition. Prayer is accepted. Dismissed as withdrawn. However, the petitioners would be at liberty to avail alternate remedy by way of appeal as per notification No.HOME-HM-40 40SECM/14/2025-2H4/63 dated 23.01.2025 issued by the Department of Home Affairs, Punjab, Government of Punjab (Home-4 Branch).
