(2) Petitioners have filed this writ petition seeking the following reliefs: “(i) Issue a Writ, Order or Direction in the nature of Mandamus directing the Regional Officer, Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.)/respondent no. 4 to issue C.B.S.E. Student Registration Number of the petitioners for Class XI (Academic Session – 2022-23). (ii) Issue a Writ, Order or Direction in the nature of Mandamus directing Regional Officer, Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.)/respondent no. 4 to issue permission to the petitioners for shifting and registration with nearby C.B.S.E. affiliated School for Class XII (Academic Session – 2023-24).” (3) As per the pleadings made in the writ petition, petitioners were student of Lucent International School, Dehradun and they were studying in 11th and 12th Standard. Central Board of Secondary Education was contemplating to withdraw recognition to the said school, therefore petitioners have sought a direction to CBSE to issue Student Registration Number to petitioners so that they may migrate to some other school. 2025:UHC:7794 (4) Learned State Counsel points out that the relief claimed by the petitioners was in respect of academic session 2022-23 and 2023-24, which is over long back. He submits that cause of action do not survive now. (5) This Court finds substance in the submission made by learned State Counsel. Since petitioners have made a limited prayer to issue Student Registration Number and such prayer was in respect of academic year 2022-23 and 2023-24 and now academic session 2025- 26 is in progress, therefore, writ petition has become infructuous by efflux of time. (6) In such view of the matter, writ petition is dismissed as infructuous.
