1. The present writ petition has been filed seeking directions for rectification of an error that has occurred during the registration of the petitioner’s vehicle, i.e., car, by issuing identical registration numbers for two different cars. 2. It is submitted that the petitioner had purchased a new Volkswagen Vento and got the same registered at the concerned Regional Transport Office (“RTO”), and the petitioner had requested for a fancy No.‘0737’. The petitioner, being a pilot, flies a Boeing 737. The petitioner also paid requisite fees for obtaining the said fancy number, after which, the concerned Transport Authority issued Registration No. DL 14C 0737 in the year 2012. 3. It is submitted that recently, while verifying the Transport Department’s online records, the petitioner discovered that another vehicle, This is a digitally signed order. W.P.(C) 18933/2025 namely, Volkswagen Polo, registered in the name of a third party, was also shown to have the same registration number, i.e., DL 14C 0737 in the RTO database. Thus, the present writ petition has been filed to rectify the duplication of registration number and correctly reflect the petitioner’s vehicle, i.e., Volkswagen Vento having the exclusive number in the RTO database. 4. A status report has been filed on behalf of respondent no.2, wherein it is stated that due to a technical glitch, the same registration number was shown as having been issued to two persons. It is further stated that the said technical glitch has now been resolved and corrective action has been taken. The report confirms that at present, registration no. DL 14C 0737 stands in the name of the petitioner and there is no duplicate/parallel allotment subsisting. 5. In view of above, the grievance raised in the writ petition stands redressed. 6. The writ petition stands disposed of accordingly.
