The petitioner has preferred the present writ petition, being aggrieved by the failure on the part of the respondent authorities – WBSEDCL to grant an electricity connection, which is essential for carrying out of his agricultural activities. 2. It is the case of the petitioner that he is the owner of plot of land Mouza Bhawanipur (East) P.O Kotalpara P.S Habibpur, District Malda. The petitioner has installed submersible pump for carrying out agricultural activities at his plot and had applied for electricity connection. He had deposited the quotation amount as demanded by respondents on 1.4.2024. Despite repeated follow-ups, the respondent WBSEDCL has failed to take the necessary steps to provide the electricity connection. 3. Learned Counsel for the respondent-WBSEDCL submits that, at present, agricultural activities are being actively carried out in the area and due to the ongoing cultivation, the erection of the required infrastructure to provide new electricity connection is temporarily constrained. 2 Nevertheless, the respondent authority assures this Court that the electricity connection to the petitioner’s plot shall be affected within a period of 5 weeks from today, subject to the completion of all requisite formalities by the petitioner. 4. In view of the submission made by the learned Counsel for the respondent WBSEDCL, learned counsel for the petitioner does not wish to press the present writ petition. 5. In the light of the above, this Court directs the respondent WBSEDCL to ensure the grant of an electricity connection to the petitioner within the stipulated period of 5 weeks, subject to the petitioner complying with all necessary formalities. 6. With the above directions writ petition is dismissed as not pressed. (Gaurang Kanth, J.)
