ORAL ORDER
Learned Counsel for the petitioner submits that although the prayer in the writ petition is to issue directions to the third respondent-Regional Passport Officer to consider the application filed by the petitioner for re-issuance of passport for a further period of ten years, nevertheless, it would suffice if the passport is re- issued for a period of one year.
2. Learned Counsel submits that the petitioner is aged about 70 years and his son is residing in the United

States of America. Earlier too, when the petitioner had filed an application for issuance of passport, the same was rejected on the ground that criminal cases are pending against the petitioner. However, thereafter it was found that on the basis of a criminal petition filed by the petitioner under Section 482 Cr.P.C., Short Validity Passport was issued for a period of one year. Therefore, it is the submission of the learned Counsel for the petitioner that the Passport may be re-issued on the same grounds for a period of one year.
3. Learned Deputy Solicitor General of India submits that if that is the contention of the petitioner that the Passport may be re-issued for a short period of one year, appropriate directions may be issued to the third respondent.
4. Consequently, the writ petition stands disposed of with a direction to the third respondent-Regional Passport Officer, Bengaluru to issue a Short Validity Passport for a

period of one year in favour of the petitioner having regard to the facts stated as hereinabove.
Ordered accordingly.
