3. Shri M.C. Chaturvedi, learned Additional Advocate General assisted by Shri Ajeet Singh, learned Standing Counsel for the State-respondents, submits that at present several schemes have been launched both by the Central Government and the State Government to provide safe drinking water in the Bundelkhand region and substantial progress has been achieved in all the districts. He points out that under the Jal Jeevan Mission – Har Ghar Jal Yojna, which is a centrally sponsored scheme, the endeavour of the Government is to ensure drinking water to every household across the State, including the seven districts of Bundelkhand, where notable improvement has already been recorded. He further submits that the Amrit Sarovar Scheme has also been implemented with the objective of preserving water resources, rejuvenating traditional water bodies, and preventing depletion of groundwater levels. In addition, the Public Distribution System (PDS) has been strengthened under the Central Government’s initiative so that each family receives ration and foodgrains without difficulty. It is thus urged that since the filing of the writ petition in 2008, the situation has drastically changed owing to these comprehensive measures, and at present, no cause of action survives. 4. In view of the above, considering the passage of time, the steps already WPIL No. 26134 of 2008 2
undertaken, and the ongoing monitoring mechanisms in place, we are of the opinion that no further orders are required at this stage. Accordingly, the writ petition is consigned to records. 5.
This order has been passed with due assistance of Shri V.K. Rai, learned counsel for the Jal Nigam, U.P.
