Heard learned counsel for the petitioner and learned AGA appearing on behalf of the State-respondents. 2. Contention of learned counsel for the petitioner is that the petitioner has preferred a mercy petition before the respondent no. 1 i.e the Principal Secretary, Home Department, Government of U.P, Civil Secretariat, Lucknow on 30.11.2023 as per specific averment made in paragraph 6 of the writ petition which is still pending for consideration and as such, it is prayed that the competent authority be directed to decide the said mercy petition of the petitioner within a specified time. 3. To the aforesaid prayer, learned AGA has no objection. 4. Accordingly, the instant criminal writ petition is disposed of with the direction to the competent authority i.e the respondent no. 1, Principal Secretary, Home Department, Government of U.P, Civil Secretariat, Lucknow to decide the pending mercy petition of the petitioner in accordance with law and the relevant rules and the scheme as applicable on the same which mercy petition would be decided within a period of six weeks from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this order.
