Sai Narayana Rao, SC For SAAP – R3 CORAM : THE CHIEF JUSTICE LISA GILL SRI JUSTICE NINALA JAYASURYA DATE : 15th June 2026 LISA GILL, CJ: Grievance raised in this writ petition was that petitioner was being denied consideration for admission in M.B.B.S. course under sports category on the ground that she had participated in the events in question representing the State of West Bengal and not the State of Andhra Pradesh. 2. It is case of petitioner that she is otherwise eligible and had played the sport of fencing at national level and that she is a local candidate belonging to 2 HCJ & NJS, J W.P. No: 30717 of 2025 the State of Andhra Pradesh. Petitioner had, however, participated in the events representing State of West Bengal at that time because her father was posted there during the relevant period. 3. Vide order dated 05.11.2025, passed in this writ petition, it was directed that candidature of petitioner be considered for admission under sports category notwithstanding the fact that she had participated in the events in question representing the State of West Bengal. In compliance thereto, petitioner’s case was considered and she was granted admission as well. It is informed that petitioner is continuing with the course in question. 4. Learned counsel for respondent No.3 further informs that sports certificates relied upon by petitioner, reflecting her participation in the events in question, have been verified and have been found to be genuine. It is further not denied that petitioner has a domicile of Andhra Pradesh. 5. Keeping in view peculiar facts and circumstances of the case, proceedings in this writ petition are closed while observing that the same may not be treated as a precedent. No costs.
