Ms. Arpita Saha, .… For the Petitioner. Affidavit-of-service filed on behalf of the petitioner be kept with the record. In spite of service, none appears on behalf of the State-respondents. The petitioner was an approved Librarian of the library under the Department of Mass Education Extension & Library Services, on attaining the age of superannuation, he had retired from his said service on April 30, 2020. The Pension Payment Order of the petitioner was issued on January 04, 2021, in pursuance whereof, he had received the gratuity and the arrear pension on January 07, 2021. The petitioner is praying interest on the arrear pension and gratuity for the delayed payment. The law is now well-settled that for such delay in payment of pension and gratuity, the petitioner is entitled to interest. 2 The respondents, the concerned Treasury Officer in particular, therefore, are directed to pay interest @ 8% per annum on the arrear amount of pension and gratuity from the date of retirement of the petitioner till the date of such payment. The payment as directed above shall be made within the period of eight weeks from the date of communication of this order. W.P.A 8399 of 2025 stands disposed of with the above terms. There shall be no order as to costs. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties subject to compliance with all requisite formalities. (Biswajit Basu, J.)
