(2) Petitioners have approached this Court for protection. According to them, they are residing together in live-in- relationship, due to which relatives of petitioner no. 1 are extending threat to them. As per the documents enclosed with the writ petition, both the petitioners have completed 18 years of age, although petitioner no. 2 has not attained the marriageable age i.e. 21 years. (3) Both the petitioners, duly identified by their Counsel, are present before the Court. Petitioner no. 1 stated that she could not qualify 8th Standard. Petitioner no. 2 stated that he has passed 10th Standard. (4) Learned State Counsel did not raise any objection against the prayer for protection made by petitioners. (5) Since petitioners apprehend threat perception to their life and liberty, therefore, considering the law declared by Hon’ble Supreme Court in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. & Anr., reported as 2006(5) SCC 475, we dispose of the writ petition by directing the SHO, PS Khanpur, District Haridwar to provide adequate protection to petitioners for a period of six weeks to 2025:UHC:11235-DB ensure that no harm is caused to them from any quarter. Upon expiry of six weeks, SHO concerned shall look into the threat perception to petitioners and take appropriate action, as deemed necessary.
