Papnoi, learned counsel for the petitioners. 2. Mr. R.K. Joshi, learned Brief Holder for the State. 3. Petitioners have approached this Court seeking protection. According to them, they got married on 13.01.2025 as per the muslim rituals at Madina Masjid Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and now they are living together as husband and wife. 4. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that due to their marriage against the wish of their family members, both the petitioners are receiving threats from respondent nos.3 to 9. 5. Petitioners are present before the Court. After interaction, petitioner no.2 stated that he runs a biscuit bakery and petitioner no.1 stated that she is a housewife. As per the documents annexed with the petition, both the petitioners are major. 6. Since both the petitioners are major and have entered into matrimony due to their own will and volition, therefore, in view of the law laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, in the case of Lata Singh Vs. State of U.P. and another; (2006) 5 SCC 475, this Court is inclined to grant protection. Accordingly, writ petition is disposed of by directing respondent no.2 (Senior Superintendent of Police, District Udham Singh Nagar, Rudrapur) to provide protection to the petitioners and to ensure that no harm is caused to them for a period of six weeks. Thereafter, the respondent no.2 shall assess threat perception to the petitioners himself or through SHO concerned and take such steps as are found necessary for their safety. (Pankaj Purohit, J.)
