This is a petition by the petitioners who claim to have contracted marriage out of their own free will and volition. The petition has been filed on the apprehension that the respondents 6 to 8 are likely to cause harm to their life and liberty. 2. On this petition coming up for consideration before this Court on 16.01.2025, this Court, while issuing notice to the respondents for filing objections, directed respondents 1 to 5 to ensure that the liberty of the petitioners was not interfered with and they are provided protection/assistance as and when they approach them for the same. The case was listed twice thereafter. However, the petitioners have not taken requisite steps for service of the respondents particularly the private respondents 6 to 8. It seems that the interim directions passed by this Court have worked to their advantage and, therefore, they have decided to abandon this petition. 3. Be that as it may, this petition is dispose of by providing that in case the petitioners apprehend threat to their life and liberty, they shall be free to approach the concerned police station to seek requisite protection. Needless to say, in case such a request is made to the police, the police shall consider the grievance in the light of the judgment passed by Hon’ble Supreme Court in <Lata Singh vs. State of UP and ors (2006) 5 SCC 475=, and take requisite measures to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is safeguarded. 4.
