Heard Mr. M. Hemchandra, learned senior counsel assisted by Ms. Rinika Maibam, learned counsel appearing for the petitioners.
Mr. S. Bronson, learned counsel appeared for the respondents No. 2, 3 & 4 and Md. Murad, learned counsel appeared for the respondent No. 1.
The present contempt petition has been filed alleging willful disobedience of the order dated 24.03.2025 passed by the Co-ordinate Bench in PIL No. 8 of 2024 wherein, direction was given to the authorities to complete the contract work involved in the said PIL within the month of May, 2025. Liberty was also given to the respondents to file an appropriate application for extension of time for completion of works, if necessary. It has been brought to our notice by the learned counsel for the respondents that the deadline for completion of the contract work has been extended by this Court upto 31.03.2026 by passing an order dated 16.07.2025 in MC(PIL) No. 26 of 2025 [Ref. PIL No. 8 of 2024].
In view of the extension of time for completion of the contract work, the learned counsel for the respondents submitted that there is no cause for committing contempt in the contempt of this Court that the authority will try to complete the said contract work within the period fixed by this Court.
In view of the submission made above, we are of the view that no contempt has been committed and accordingly, the present contempt proceeding is hereby closed.
