The petitioner's father, who died in harness while working as Assistant Selection Officer in the Staff Selection Commission prays for consideration of his candidature for compassionate appointment. Sri Yogendra Kumar, learned counsel for the respondent submits that documents relating to the claim of the petitioner for compassionate appointment has already been forwarded to the headquarter on 12th July, 2024, however, the decision is still awaited. The documents to this effect have also been brought on record at page 34 of the memo of petition. From perusal of the record it transpires that the competent authority in the matter is Regional Additional Secretary, Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi to take a decision. In the circumstances, this petition stands disposed of with a direction to the respondent No.-2 to look into and consider the claim of the petitioner for compassionate appointment and dispose of the same in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of two months from the date of production of certified copy of this order. It is made clear that in the event petitioner is found suitable to be appointed on compassionate basis, he will be offered compassionate appointment within a further period of one month as the delay in the matter of compassionate appointment will defeat the very purpose behind the rules framed.
