WPO/688/2025
AKHTARI BEGUM VS THE CENTRAL REGIONAL OFFICE CESC HOUSE AND ORS.
BEFORE:
The Hon'ble JUSTICE RAVI KRISHAN KAPUR Date : 15th January, 2026
Appearance: Mr. Intiaz Belal, Adv. …for the petitioner.
Mr. Madhusudan Saha Ray, Adv. …for the CESC.
The Court: The petitioner seeks removal of a transformer situated at the ground floor of Premises No.154, Lenin Sarani, Police Station-Bow Bazar, Kolkata-700013. It is alleged on behalf of the petitioner that a new transformer be installed by the CESC Limited at the subject premises. The existing transformer is causing serious inconvenience and discomfort to the petitioner and all other occupants. In response to a communication issued by the petitioner, by a response dated 3 May, 2025 the CESC Limited had categorically directed the petitioner to take immediate steps for replacing the wiring and installation of the entire building. The letter also highlights that there is no suitable existing space for relocating the transformer.
2 It is submitted on behalf of the respondent that despite receipt of the letter dated 3 May, 2025, no further steps have been taken by the petitioner. The petitioner has not been able to thoroughly check nor replace nor renovate the existing electrical wiring at the subject premises. There is also no alternative and suitable place which has been provided by the petitioner for relocating the transformer. In view of the above and the failure of the petitioner to comply with the letter dated 3 May, 2025, there is no question of any order being passed in this writ petition. WPO/688/2025 stands dismissed. Liberty is granted to the petitioner to take necessary steps in conformity with response issued by the CESC Limited and also to provide the CESC with a suitable arrangement.
