Ms. Mamta Joshi, Advocate for the Kumaon University/respondent no.4. 4. Petitioner submitted nomination papers for contesting election for the post of President in Students’ Union. Her nomination has been rejected, on the ground that she is elected as Member in Gram Panchayat Sisona. Feeling aggrieved by rejection of her nomination, petitioner has approached this Court. 5. Learned State Counsel refers to Clause 7(1) of the Constitution of the Students’ Union, where it is mentioned that the candidates in the Students’ Union Election will not have any affiliation with any political party. He submits that the said stipulation is made to ensure that party politics do not enter inside the campus and the election to the 2025:UHC:8759 Students’ Union is held purely on merit of a candidate. He further submits that since petitioner was elected as Member, Gram Panchayat Sisona on political lines, therefore, a political figure cannot be allowed to contest Students’ Union Election in a Government Degree College. 6. This Court do not find any reason to interfere with the rejection of nomination paper of the petitioner; firstly due to the fact that election are scheduled to be held on 27.09.2025 and any interference at this stage, will create problem for the college authorities and may also disrupt peace and harmony in the area; and secondly participation by political parties in college elections pollutes the academic atmosphere and also disrupts the camaraderie between the students studying in the college, therefore, reason assigned for rejecting petitioner’s nomination do not call for any interference by this Court. 7. Accordingly, the writ petition is dismissed.
