Rejoinder affidavit filed by the petitioner today is taken on record. The petitioner applied for appointment to the post of Operator Machinist. He applied under the OBC Category. The petitioner was aged 28 years, 2 months and 20 days on the date of submission of application form. The maximum age limit for the General Category Candidates was 28 years. Hence, the petitioner could not have been accommodated in the category of General Category Candidates. The petitioner's merit is lower than that of the last candidate selected under the OBC Category. The wrong entry was made due to inadvertence by the respondent authorities in the result which led to the appointment of the petitioner under the General Category. The aforesaid error was corrected. Age relaxation as contemplated under the Rules is for one year, which is applicable to the upper age limit of the candidates in the reserved category. The provision for relaxation in the age limit is not of any benefit to the petitioner. The writ petition is dismissed.
