Ramesh, Standing Counsel-R2 & R3 Mr.C.Gauthamaraj, Standing Counsel – R4 ORDER The petitioner has approached this Court seeking a direction to relocate the bus stop situated in front of the petitioner’s properties at Kundrathur Main Road, Porur, Chennai-600 116. 2. The petitioner states that the plots have a frontage of 30 feet each on the road, which provides access to the plots. According to the petitioner, the 3rd respondent has erected a bus stop in front of the petitioner’s properties, thereby obstructing access to the properties. Therefore, the petitioner submitted a https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 21301 of 2024 __________ Page3 of 6 representation dated 30.03.2024 to the 1st respondent requesting that the bus stop be relocated. 3. By order dated 31.07.2026, this Court directed respondents 1 to 4 to ascertain whether any alternative location was available for relocating the existing bus stop. Pursuant to the said order, the learned Standing Counsel appearing for the Corporation placed on record the communication dated 11.08.2026 addressed to the petitioner, stating that steps would be taken to relocate the bus stop after obtaining the concurrence of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) Limited. 4. The 4th respondent, by communication dated 19.08.2026 addressed to the Greater Chennai Corporation, has stated that an alternative location has been identified in a vacant private plot situated about 180 metres from the existing bus stop, in the same direction. It is further stated that, if the Greater Chennai Corporation arranges for relocation of the bus stop to the said location, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation will take necessary action to facilitate MTC buses to stop at the relocated bus stop for boarding and alighting of passengers. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP No. 21301 of 2024 __________ Page4 of 6 5. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and in view of the above statement made by the 4th respondent, this writ petition is disposed of with the following directions: (i) Respondents 1 to 3 shall take necessary steps to relocate the bus stop to the alternative location identified by the 4th respondent. The cost of such relocation shall be borne by the petitioner. (ii) The respondent-Corporation shall calculate the exact cost of relocation and communicate the same to the petitioner within one week from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. (iii) On receipt of the said communication, the petitioner shall deposit the amount with the respondent-Corporation within one week thereafter. (iv) The entire exercise of relocating the bus stop shall be completed within eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. (v) Consequently, the connected miscellaneous petition is closed.
