The respondent by the status affidavit has stated that after assuming charge as Tahsildar, __________ Page1 of 4 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis CONT P No. 469 of 2024 Kallakurichi Taluk, Villupuram District, he had initiated action and issued notice to the petitioner directing him to appear before the Authority on 08.07.2026 at 11.00 a.m. in relation to the disciplinary proceedings initiated on the charge of unauthorised absence from duty with effect from 01.06.2004; that in response to the summons, the petitioner had appeared before the Enquiry Officer on 08.07.2026, and submitted his explanation to the charges framed; and that the Enquiry Officer recorded the petitioner’s explanation as part of the disciplinary proceedings. 2. It is further stated that the disciplinary proceedings are presently in progress and are being proceeded with in accordance with the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules,1955 and that appropriate orders will be passed on completion of the enquiry proceedings in accordance with law. 3. Having regard to the aforesaid status affidavit filed by the respondent informing this Court about the stage of disciplinary proceedings, this Court is of the view that the respondent is to be directed to complete the enquiry proceedings as expeditiously as possible after following the principles of natural justice and pass appropriate orders on merits and in accordance with law. __________ Page2 of 4 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis CONT P No. 469 of 2024 4. In view of the above, this Court is of the view that no useful purpose would be served by keeping the contempt petition pending.
