The instant writ petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of certiorari quashing the selection and appointment made to the post of Block Development and Panchayat Officer under the Handicapped Category, Factual backdrop presented before this Court is that the respondent No.2 advertised three posts of BDPO under the handicapped , vide advertisement published in the English Tribune on 16.09.2000 (Annexure P-1). He was having disability to the extent of 60% and a certificate to that effect has been attached as Annexure P-4. After oral interviews of the candidates, the petitioners were not selected for appointment for the post of BDPO under the advertisement. However, the candidates selected are not handicapped and thus, ineligible for appointment. Representations filed by the petitioners have been to no avail. Hence, this petition. 3. Notice of motion in the writ petition was issued on 22.08.2001 and the State placed on record the affidavit dated 16.08.2002 of Deputy Secretary to Government, Punjab, Rural Development and Panchayat, Department on behalf of respondents No.1 and 2, stating that the services of such persons has been dispensed with who were appointed as Block Development and Panchayat Officer against handicapped quota vide order dated 02.08.2002 (Annexures R-1 to R-III), and the selection stand quashed. 4. In view of the above, the prayer made in the writ petition has become redundant and consequently, the present petition has become infructuous.
