No. 1971 of 2026 __________ Page2 of 4 ORDER This Writ Petition has been filed seeking direction to the Respondents to consider petitioners representation dated 20.07.2026 and provide Police Protection for the temple festival Scheduled to be held from 14.08.2026 to 16.08.2026 in Arulmighu Chelliyamman Sri Karuppasamy Temple. 2. Heard the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner and the learned Counsel for Government of Tamil Nadu (Criminal Side) appearing for the respondents. Perused the materials available on record. 3. The learned Counsel for Government of Tamil Nadu (Criminal Side), on instructions, would submit that there is likelihood of a law and order problem arising in the locality. 4. A mere apprehension cannot be a ground to reject the petitioner’s representation. There is absolutely no material before this Court to hold that there will be a law and order problem in the event of permission being granted. 5. In such view of the matter, this petition is allowed and the petitioner is permitted to conduct Temple Festival to be held from 14.08.2026 to 16.08.2026 in Arulmighu Chelliyamman Sri Karuppasamy Temple. No. 1971 of 2026 __________ Page3 of 4 respondents are directed to give permission and protection for the smooth conduct of the said temple festival after obtaining undertaking from the petitioner and the organizers that there will not be any political or communal provocative songs. The participants in the festival will not exhibit any obscene sign or conduct or jesture and the organizers will undertake to compensate any damage to the public property, if any during the course of conducting festival. 6.
