(1) A member other than an ex-officio member, shall, save as otherwise expressly provided in this Act, hold office until the expiry of a term of five years from the date of his election or appointment or until his successor has been duly elected or appointed, whichever is later : Provided that a member elected under clause (c) of section 4 shall cease to hold office on his ceasing to be a member of the Faculty. (2) An appointed or elected member may, at any time, resign his office by writing under his hand addressed to the State Government or to the President, as the case may be. Such resignation shall take effect from the date on which the communication is received by the State Government or the President.
