(1) Save as otherwise provided in this Act, the powers of the University conferred by or under this Act shall not extend beyond the limits of any district referred to in. clause (a) of section 2. (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force, with effect from such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint in this behalf (hereafter in this. section referred to as the appointed day),— (a) such colleges existing on the appointed day within the limits of the districts referred to in clause. (a) of section 2 as may be specified in the notifica- tion shall— (i) be deemed to be affiliated to the University and continue to be so affiliated until the University otherwise directs, and (ii) cease to be affiliated to the University of Calcutta to which they may have been affiliated before the appointed day; (b) any. Teacher, Principal or member of the Govern- ing Body of any such college holding or having been elected to, by virtue of his being such Teacher, Principal or member, any office in or under this University of Calcutta or any of the Ben.
