(1) The Corporation may, at its first meeting after each general election or as soon as may be thereafter, constitute an Education Committee for ensuring general control and supervision of primary and secondary schools maintained by the Corporation under any law in force immediately before the coming into force of this Act. (2) The constitution, powers and duties of the Education Committee shall be such as may be prescribed: Provided that the Chandernagore Municipal Corporation (Education Committee) Rules, 2001, made under the Chandernagore Municipal Corporation Act, 1990, shall continue to remain in force in the area within the jurisdiction of the Chandernagore Municipal Corporation, and the Education Committee constituted under section 12 of the said Act shall be deemed to have been consituted under this Act.
