(1) The Board of Councillors may, with a view to promoting safety, convenience, privacy or sanitation or to securing conformity with the provisions of this Act and the rules and the regulations made thereunder, by order stating reasons in writing, require the owner of any existing 306 The West Bengal Municipal Act, 1993. XXII of 1993.] (Part V.—Regulatory Jurisdiction.—Chapter XIV.—Building.— Sections 222, 223.) building to make such alterations therein within such period as may be specified in the order: Provided that before making any such order, the Board of Councillors shall give a reasonable opportunity to the owner to show cause why such order should not be made. (2) An appeal against an order made by the Board of Councillors under this section shall lie with the Municipal Appellate Tribunal constituted under this Act.
