Section 171

(I) The Board of Councillors may, subject to the other provisions Power to of this Act,— acquire lands and (a) acquire any land together with structure, if any, standing buildings for thereon required for the purpose of opening, widening, public streets, extending or otherwise improving any public street, parking public or transportation terminal, square, park or garden or of parking Places and making a new one or for enforcing regular line of street; transporta- (b) acquire, in relation to any land or building as aforesaid, Lion such land or building as the Board of Councillors may think terminals. expedient, outside the regular line or projected regular line of the public street as aforesaid. (2) Where a land or building is acquired under sub-section (1) and the Board of Councillors is satisfied that the remaining portion of the land will not be suitable or fit for any beneficial use to the owner, it shall, at the request of the owner, acquire, in addition, such remaining portion of the land which shall, on acquisition, vest in the Municipality.
