(1) (a) The President of the University shall be

(1) (a) The President of the University shall be. selected by a Committee mentioned in clause' (b) out of a panel of three persons, not being persons holding any salaried office under the University or an Institution, recommended by the members of the University other than the President: Provided that the President of the National Council at the time of the commencement of this Act shall be the First President of. the University. (b) The Committee shall be composed of— The President. (1) the Minister-in-charge of the Department of Educa- tion of the Government of West Bengal; (ii) a representative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India; and (iii) a person, not being a member of the University or a salaried employee of the University or an Insti- tution, elected by the University. (2) The President shall not be entitled to any salary or remuneration and shall not hold any salaried office under the University or an Institution. (3) The President shall hold office for a term of four years from the date of his assumption of office as President. The Rector. The Treasurer. The Registrar. 0 The Jadavpur University Act, 1955. (4) If any vacancy occurs in the office of the President by reason of resignation, death or expiration of his term of office, then, pending the selection of another President, the University shall appoint one of its members to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the President. (5) The President shall have such powers and duties as may be conferred on him by rules.
