The object of the Institute shall be to develop a culture for, and bring about, an awareness of Information and Communication Technology and to actively partici- irate-in_the formulation and implementation of a National Action Plan for Information Technology. The objects of the Institute shall be as follows, namely:— to create centres of excellence for imparting state-of-the-art education, training and research in the fields of information and communication technology; to create capabilities for development of multimedia content and its distribution; to create capabilities for upgrading information and communication technology infrastructure to the global standards; to develop patterns of teaching and training at various levels of edu- cational accomplishment so as to set a high standard of information and communication technology education and its applications; to function as a learning resource centre for knowledge management and entrepreneurship development in the area of information and commu- nication technology; to provide for inter-relationship for national and global participation in the field of information and communication technology and its allied fields; to establish close linkage with industry and to make teaching, training and research at the Institute relevant to the needs of the economy, at national and global level.
