(1) The Syndicate shall take into consideration drafts of Ordinances proposed to be passed, after notice thereof has been given to the members of the Syndicate at least three weeks in advance of the date fixed for consideration of the same by the Syndicate. The Vice- Chancellor may direct a shorter notice in a. matter which in his opinion is of an emergent nature. (2) An Ordinance shall be deemed to be passed by the Syndicate if it is agreed to by a majority of the total number of members of the Syndicate existing at the time. (3) An Ordinance, passed in the manner as provided above, shall be presented to the Chancellor for assent and shall, subject to any direction of the Chancellor hereinafter provided, come into force on being assented to by the Chancellor from such date as the Chancellor may determine. 330 The Calcutta University Act, 1979. (4) The Chancellor may direct that the operation of any Ordinance shall be suspended until such time as the Senate has had an opportunity of considering the same. (5) An Ordinance shall unless cancelled or modified by the Chancellor shall remain in force until repealed or amended by a new Ordinance similarly passed and brought into force.
