(1) Every thika tenant who makes a payment on account of rent to his landlord shall be entitled to obtain forthwith from the landlord or his authorised agent a written receipt for the amount paid by him, signed by the landlord. The Calcutta Thika Tenancy Act, 949. 7 II of 1949.] (Chapter Ill—Provisions as to rent of thika tenancies.— Sections 16-18.) (2) ,A counterfoil of the receipt shall be prepared and retained by the landlord or his authorised agent. (3) The receipt and counterfoil shall be in such form and shall contain such particulars as may be prescribed. (4) If a receipt does not contain substantially the parti- culars required by this section, it shall be presumed, until the contrary is shown, to be an acquittance in full of all demands for rent up to the date on which the receipt was given.
