(1) The Inspector-General of Police, West Bengal, the Cn-opermion Commissioner of Police, '[KolkaLa], and Lhcir subordinates shall,-— of ihe police, (a) co-operate with lhe Corporation for carrying into effecL and enforcing the provisions of this Act and for maintaining good order in and oulside '[Kolkata], and (b) assist lhe Corporation or the Municipal Commissioner or any other officcr or employee of the Corporation in carrying out any order made by a Magistrate under this Act. (3) Any officer or employee of lhe Corporation may, when empowered by a general or special order of the In spec lor-Genera I or Police, Wesl Bengal or the Commissioner orPolice, '[Kolkata], on the recommendation of the Corporaiion in lhat behalf, exereisc the powers of a police-officer for such of (he purposes or this Acl as may be specified in such order. (1) Any police-officer may arresl any person who commits, in police io his view, any offence under lhis Acl or Lhe rules or lhe regulations made offenders. thereunder, provided lhat the name and address of such person are unknown lo him and such person declines lo give, on demand, his name and address or gives a name or address which lhe police-officer has reason to believe lo be Talse. (2) No person so arrested shall be detained in custody afLer his true name and address are ascertained or wilhoul ihc order or a Magistrate, for a period longer lhan twenty-four hours from lhe Lime of arrest exclusive of the time necessary for the journey from lhe place of arrest to the coun of sueh Magislrale. (3) On the written application of lhe Municipal Commissioner or lhe Joint Municipal Commissioner or the Deputy Municipal Commissioner or the Municipal Engineer-in-Chief or ihe ChiefMunicipal Health Officer or any oiher officcr authorised in lhis behalf by the Municipal Commissioner or any such officcr, any police-officer above the rank of a constable shall arrest any person who obstructs the Municipal Commissioner or any officer or employee of the Corporation in lhe exercise of any power or performance or any function or discharge or any duly under lhis Acl or lhe rules or lhe regulations made thereunder.
