Section 9

Devolution of estates.

9. The estate or any portion of the estate of an estate-holder in respect of which he dies intestate shall descend to a single heir in accordance with the order of succession and subject to the conditions prescribed in the first Schedule ; Provided that where a female succeeds for her life-time only, or where two or more females successively so succeed, the person next in succession shall take a vested interest on the death of the last male estate-holder, subject to such interest being divested retrospectively in case any such female being a widow, adopts a son under the provisions of section 12.
