(1) Whoever displaces, takes up or makes an alteration in, or otherwise interferes with, the payment, gutter, flags, or other materials of a public street, or the fences, walls or posts thereof, or a municipal lamp, lamp-post, bracket, direction-post, stand-post, hydrant or other such or other lawful authority, and whoever extinguishes a municipal light shall be liable on conviction to a fine which may extend to one 1 [thousand] rupees. (2) Any expense incurred by the board by reason of the doing of any such thing as is mentioned in sub-section (1) may be recovered from the offender in the manner provided by Chapter VI.
