223. (1) The Municipality shall, during the construction or repair of a public street or of any water-works, drains or premises vested in it, or whenever any public street, water-works, drain or premises vested in it have, for want of repair, or otherwise, become unsafe for use by the public, take all necessary precautions against accident by - (a) shoring up and protecting adjacent buildings, and (b) fixing bars, chains or posts across or in any street for the purpose of preventing or diverting traffic during such construction or repair, and (c) guarding and providing with sufficient lighting from sunset to sunrise any work in progress. (2) Whoever, without the authority or consent of the Municipality, in any way interferes with any arrangement or construction made by the Municipality under sub-section (1) or guarding against accident shall be liable on conviction to a fine which may extend to fifty rupees.
