272. (1) Subject to any special reservation made by the State Government from time to time all streets within the City being, or which at any time become. public streets, except streets which on the appointed day vested in the State Government or the Central Government or after the said day may be constructed and maintained by an authority other than the 1 [Corporation], with the soil, sub-soil and the side drains, footways, pavement, stones and other materials thereof, shall vest in the 1 [Corporation] and be under the control of the 2 [Municipal Commissioner]. (2) The State Government may after consulting the 1 [Corporation] by notification withdraw any such street with the soil, sub-soil and the side drains, footways, payments, stones and other materials thereof from the control of the 1 [Corporation].
