(1) If at a general election or by-election no #[member] is elected, a fresh election shall be held on such date as the 142[State Election Commissioner] may fix in this behalf. (2) The term of office of a #[member] elected under sub-section (1) shall expire at the time at which it would have expired if he had been elected at the general election or by-election, as the case may be.
