(1) No person shall establish a private ferry within two miles from the limits of any Government ferry, without the sanction of the 13[Collector] or the officer appointed by the 14[Government] for this purpose under sections 5. (2) The 14[Government] may, by notification, reduce or increase the distance of two miles mentioned in sub-section (1), for any specific ferry. (3) Sub-section (1) shall apply to the following cases:– (a) boats which are not plied on hire, (b) boats which the 14[Government] may exempt from the provisions of this section, (c) the traffic between two places, the distance between which is not less than three miles and one of which is situate within and the other beyond two miles of the limits of a Government ferry.
