(1) Subject to the provisions of subsections (2) to (91, the Cllennai Univer- Act of1923 sity ~ c t , 1923 shall, with effect os and from the i?otified date, cease to apply in &*; fOaPP1y* respect of the areas to which the proviwons or' L ~ ~ L S Act r ~ t ~ r d . (2) Such cessor shall not affect - i I (a) the previous operation of the Chennai University Act. 1923 in respect ~ ~ ~ i l ~~d d the areas to which the provisions of this Act extend ; or (b) any penalty, forfeiture or punishment Incurred in resi-ect of any offence Tamil Nado comtllitted against thu Chennai Univers~ty Act, 1923 ; or (c) any investigation, legal proceeding or re me:'.^ in respect of such penalty, forfeiture or punishment, and any such investlgatlon, legal proceeding or remedy may beinstitutec', continued or enforced and any such pe~alty, forfeltl~re or pucishment may he imposed as if this Act had not been nasset'. I (3) Notwithstanding anything contailled in sub-section (I), all statutes, ordi- nances and regulations made under the Chenna~ University Act, 1923 and in force Taf': on the notifled date, shall, in so far as they are not Inconsistent with this Act, continue to be inforce in the'lmitersity areauntilthey are replaced by thestatutes, ordinances and regulations to be made under this Act. (7) All colleges within the Univmity .are& which, immediate3y.befo~e the motifiad date, continue to be rccognised by the Chennai University as ociental.&ges providing courses of study for admission to the examinations of that University, for i titles and diplomas, shall be deemed to be colleges approved by the Periyar University under this Act and the provisions of this Act shall, as far as may be, apply ! accordingly.
